Balmain part 2

Suburb of Balmain

Took a ferry over to Balmain and did self-guided walking tour that the guide said 1.5 hours but was actually close to double that. Balmain has amazing views of Sydney. used ot be a suburb with dock workers, now its a mix of yuppies, hippies and the famous. Paddington was kinda like South Granville, Balmain has a Kitsilano feel with a shopping street like West 4th plus Louisa Street just off a large park with multi-million dollar harbour front properties.

Paddington Village, Padding Street & Williams St.

Below is Williams street - 3 blocks of high end fasion shops converted from these 2 level row houses. there are some very cool spaces.

Paddington Village - Saturday Market & Homes

Fantastic market. wandered off the main drag of Oxford street to check out the homes in the area. Great area. I want to live here. Most everything is going for over a million. damn.

Sydney's Pub Wars

so there's 3 pubs that claim the title "oldest pub":
  • "the fortune of war" in the Rocks area - technically they hold the "oldest continueing pub license" in Australia and they have the prime spot in the Rocks so they can do what they want i guess
  • "the Lord Nelson Hotel" - now a brew pub
  • "the hero of waterloo" looks nd feels more authentic so i consider this one the winner.
So Josh from Butchart Gardens and I are talking to the bartender and waitress at the Hero of Waterloo about this whole who's older than who stuff. This place used to be where the British Navy would "press gang" drunks into the british navy. anyone passed out would get dropped down a trap door into a jail in the basement and then get chained up until the morning when they would get taken away to be "volunteered into the Navy". It was a slow night and we gots accents down here so the waitress takes us on a a tour of the trap tour, the jail and the chains that are still there, just being used as storage.

All Opera House All The Time

And you shall call me "El Guapo".

fine - here's proof that im here.

Darling Harbour part 2

Darling Harbour

along with some visitor attractions and boat cruises, Darling Harbour has the craziest number of restuarants and bars all along both sides of the harbour. I may have even sampled a few. Also home of Star Casino where I was ON FIRE. $85 bucks on dog racing and $72 on casino roulette.
